Its width, 1900mm, is unchanged from the previous car. The wider and aggressive bodywork styling – with the chassis again produced by Dallara – means the car is 159mm longer than its predecessor, as well as being 32kg heavier (including a driver).

The Hewland dog design is somewhat antiquated, as well. Reverse is also less durable than a standard Bug trans. There is no better trans for road racing, but they're noisy, require finesse for street driving, and the ratio selection is rather limited. It was fun for about 6 months, and then became tiresome. The real problem with the hewland is that only the owner can drive the car because almost nobody knows hiw to shift poperly this trabs, and the results can be nasty.ģ.16 gears are not cheap ! Every other gear is adfordable. I also use central anular hydraulic clutch with 2000lb and is smooth and soft I have other hewland trans in other projects but the mk9 for me is the right one for vw I love the wine from straight cut gears but for some persons is annoyingĬhanging gears is not as easy as mid engine because we need to remove engine and with all the stuff that we add is not fast! I solved this problem with 3.88 r&p and 3.16 first year, the launch is not a problemĮxist a lot of diferent gear ratios, I have more than 30 diferent,īut I found that 2 combination was enough for street with overdrive and short ratios for track Some years ago when I beginning with this trans project, some people told me that this was tried several years ago, the problem was the 3.44 r&p and 2.5 first year.
